DIRECT CHILD CARE WORKER

Full Time and Part Time Position

Pay Scale: $9 - $10 an hour 

(pay reviewed after six months, pay increase based on dependability and performance.)

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency (GED) or higher from a program, recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TPSAC), or other similar educational entity from another state, or documentation to verify high school equivalency form home schooling. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons necessary to care for the resident’s needs. A total of one year of direct care experience with residents in a general
residential operation or Emergency Shelter . Any educational or experiential qualifications to be considered as equivalent, in lieu of the above minimum standards, require prior approval of the CEO. Must be must be 21 years or older.

Duties:

  • Ensure that assigned duties are preformed adequately

  • Document and report duties that are not performed adequately

  • Demonstrate knowledge and maintain responsibility of children in care

  • Provision of child care services for each child

  • Demonstrating awareness of and accountability for each resident’s on going activities

  • Providing the level of supervision necessary to ensure each resident’s safety and well-being, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each child's on-going activity as appropriate

  • Intervening with necessary to ensure each resident’s safety

  • During supervision, consider the resident’s age, individual differences, indoor and outdoor layout of he operation, surrounding circumstances, hazards, and risk that may exist.

  • During supervision, consider the resident’s physical, mental, emotional, and social needs.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, environment.

  • Participate in staff training

  • Uphold confidentiality in all areas of client and program operations

  • Uphold professional and ethical standards as prescribed Sound Decisions

  • Demonstrate exceptional professional demeanor at all times

Responsibilities

Unsupervised Childhood Activities: The direct care worker will be responsible for knowing where a resident is during supervised and unsupervised activities, give the resident a specific time to return to the site or a predetermined designated location, provide arrange, or conform an appropriate method of transportation to and for the activity, provide a way for resident to contact the caregiver in an emergency and be available to respond if the child contacts the caregiver and needs immediate assistance.


Children Receiving Treatment Services: Daily Progress notes will be maintained for each resident that has been identified as Emotional Disturbed, Intellectual Disabled, or Medically Fragile. Caregivers must sign and date each progress note at the time the progress note is completed.


Overnight Visits: Residents are not allowed overnight visits with staff unless, the child is participating in an overnight activity such as a function provided by a religious group. 

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a child in care does not act as a caregiver; and

  • Ensure persons whose behavior or health status presents danger to children are not

allowed at the operation.

The supervisor and childcare administrator designated by SD will be on call to handle emergencies and accessible to caregivers 24 hours - 7 days a week. Caregivers will be informed of the system regarding how to contact the “On-Call” staff member in case of an emergency. The “On-Call” staff member’s name and contact information will be displayed in the staff office.
